Fiverr® Review – Pros and Cons of the Five Dollar Marketplace

In this Fiverr® review, we will be going over five different categories that are the foundation of any online marketplace. Ease of marketplace use, the buyer and seller community, the potential to make money, customer support, and the ease of withdrawing your earned funds. We will be reviewing Fiverr ® from both a buyer and a seller perspective, so hopefully we will clear up any questions you may have regarding the “Five Dollar Marketplace.”

Fiverr® Ease of Use

Rated at 4.5/5 Stars, Fiverr ® is an extremely easy website to use. Fiverr ® offers extensive search capabilities for buyers, and tons of categories to narrow down exactly what a seller is offering for sale. The GUI is pleasant to the eye, and the font is large enough for people of any age to read the website without any issue.

The only issue we had with the layout was the seller to-do panel. Occasionally buyer purchases get “stuck” on the menu after a cancellation and you have to contact customer support for them to remove the sale. Other than that, the layout and ease of use is very streamlined, and very fast.

Fiverr® Community Review

The Fiverr ® community has a mixture of extremely patient buyers, all the way to highly negative demons that expect you to deliver two or three times more than they purchased, and still leave you a bad review. (Or worse!)

In one such case, we sold a Search Engine Optimization gig for $25, where we were expected to deliver a SEO guide, do a custom review of the clients website and build a few links to their site from similar content guest blogs. Fair enough. Well, we ran into a little problem with building the links, and it ended up taking us about 8 hours longer than the delivery due date, which was set for 3 days. So, in total, it took us three days and eight hours for the delivery. We sent the guide (as well as an additional guide -our other SEO gig- as a thank you for the add-on purchases) within the first six hours, and completed his review within the first 24. We apologized about the delay in finishing the back-links to his dentistry website, and asked him if we could perhaps build a few more as an apology or refund part of his purchase price.

Unexpectedly, after receiving all of our products, which he first had said he was impressed by, he requested that we offer him a FULL refund for the extra 8 hour delivery time. We explained that we had still delivered the completed gig to him, and that we could offer 50% back, but it only took a couple extra hours to complete the gig and it wouldn’t be a fair transaction if he got both the complete delivery AND the full purchase price back. (If he told us that he was going to want a full refund upfront, we could have stopped adding the purchased back-links and just offered the full refund instead, but he waited until the delivery was completed and in his hands before he pressured the full refund request.)

Escalating the report

Anyways, he ignored our messages and escalated the complaint to Fiverr ® support, where we HIGHLY doubt they even reviewed the numerous messages back and forth, and ended up deciding in his favor…Refunding him his full purchase price of $25. When we contacted support asking them to review, they explained that they had already made their decision, and it was impossible to review the case again.

You have to take the good with the bad though, just like any marketplace. We have had our share of extremely forgiving buyers, and kind hearted ones who are more than willing to work with us, too. We’ve received many tips after delivery, and have been praised endlessly for the simplest things, so we can’t say that the community is all bad!

Our Fiverr review rating of the community rounds out at a solid 4/5, which is very similar to pretty much any marketplace in existence across the board. It does seem that Fiverr ® will almost always side with the buyer though, so have your documents ready if a case gets escalated.
